Join us during London Climate Action Week!
Heat stress, floods, droughts: climate change are already reshaping the world of work. Hosted by Labora and FORGE, this session explores the impacts of the climate crisis on workers’ lives and livelihoods across multiple sectors in Brazil, from waste pickers in cities exposed to fl ooding and extreme heat, to rural workers on the frontlines of agrarian change, and platform workers facing income losses due to climate-related disruptions.
The session brings together perspectives from the International Alliance of Waste Pickers, Via Campesina, and the (Brazilian) National Confederation of Rural Wage Earners (CONTAR) to examine how climate change is altering labour conditions in urban and rural contexts, the impacts of large-scale energy transition projects on territories across the Global South, and the role of workers in responding to the
climate crisis.
Drawing on findings from a six month-long research project, supported by Laudes Foundation, the discussion will highlight key gaps and barriers to transnational workers’ organising, alongside emerging strategies led by workers across six
sectors: agriculture, forest and water workers, platform workers, care workers, street vendors, and waste pickers.
The session will also explore what this means for philanthropy, identifying concrete opportunities for funders to support worker-led responses, strengthen international solidarity, and move beyond fragmented approaches towards a more coordinated and truly global just transition.
